Zugspitze - Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany

The highest mountain experience in Germany was secured with fall protection solutions from INNOTECH.

A visit to the almost 3,000-meter-high Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany, has been even more spectacular since the completion of the new Zugspitze cable car. A total route length of around 4.5 kilometers and a height difference of just under 2,000 meters are just the basic data for the cable car. With the world's longest cable car span of 3,213 meters and the world's tallest steel support for aerial tramways, the Zugspitze cable car also breaks three world records.

Superlative technical masterpiece

The conditions at Germany's highest construction site were demanding. Even in the summer, snow sometimes had to be shoveled for hours and the scaffolding de-iced before the actual work could begin. In addition, static and geological requirements made it necessary to build up Germany's highest construction crane at a height of 2,950 meters.

Valley station: maintenance and cleaning is guaranteed

As a first step, the basic construction work for the cable car support and the new valley station were completed in 2017. For the maintenance and repair work on the roof and the regular cleaning of the platform, a total of 4 AIO lifeline systems with a total length of 222 meters were installed in the valley station area.

Mountain station: protection under difficult circumstances

The spectacular mountain panorama of the mountain station in the north face of the Zugspitze not only required sophisticated building planning, but also an equally sophisticated safety concept. In addition to the restaurant with a 360 ° panoramic view of 400 peaks in 4 countries, it was also necessary to secure the fully glazed platforms with panoramic views, even in the most adverse weather conditions. The special challenge of the project: We only had 3 weeks from the measurement to the start of the assembly.
In an exemplary cross-departmental collaboration, the offer, planning and construction of the special components were carried out. Of course, delivery was on time!

In addition to 3 AIO lifeline systems for safe snow removal and roof maintenance of the mountain station, a total of 6 TAURUS rail systems were installed on the facade for maintenance and cleaning purposes. As the only provider on the market who was able to offer an optically and technically functioning system for facade protection, we have planned and manufactured special TAURUS curves in order to be able to guarantee adaptation to the unique contours of the mountain station. The systems were then assembled again under difficult conditions. In the onset of winter and the most adverse conditions with snowstorms and temperatures of -15° C, the systems were installed within only 2 weeks.

With the new Zugspitze cable car, you not only arrive comfortably, but above all, safely to the highest floor of Germany!
