Sensitisation to the subject of fall protection even during vocational training
The Book of Construction Tables serves as a basis for teaching the subject of building technology.
Remember those long ago days when you still sat at your school desk? You’ll never forget the feeling and nerves before a final exam, and then that tense wait for the result, to see what had turned out well, and what hadn’t.
On the one hand, learning depends on a good teacher, and on the other hand on a high-quality textbook or reference work which comprehensively reflects the current state of knowledge of a specific subject.
We are supporting this by sharing our know-how with the author of the chapter on fall protection for Krapfenbauer’s Book of Construction Tables.
A reference work which includes fall protection
This text book takes into account Austrian construction standardisation and the Eurocodes related to it. The book is used as training and specialist support material for the subject of building technology and for advanced technical, industrial, and arts and crafts teaching institutions.
In addition to a general section consisting of mathematics, material constants, statics, and material mechanics, the contents also include a special (construction-related) section.
This constructional content explains subjects such as the planning of support structures as per Eurocodes, earthworks and foundations, steelwork, heat and sound protection, and also safety systems to protect against falls.
This is where we were able to support the author of the section with our expertise by sharing our skills and know-how.
Important terms reduced to what matters
The reader or learner is informed about safety systems for flat and pitched roofs, amongst other things. Terms like “fall edge” and “pendulum fall” are explained using text and images. Briefly and concisely, one learns the meaning of “lanyard”, “shock absorber”, “safety harness”, and “fall arrest device”.
You can find out what else there is to discover by taking a look at the contents of Krapfenbauer’s Book of Construction Tables, which after purchase is also available as an e-book.
The aim of including fall protection in the book was to draw attention and to sensitise learners to the subject, and this remains the objective throughout the period of vocational training.
