Fall protection for passenger and freight transport

Lifeline system AIO
The AIO LIFELINE SYSTEM PASSABLE OVERHEAD from INNOTECH has been developed as a restraint, fall arrest, and rescue system.
SHOW SYSTEMTAURUS HORIZONTAL rail system
The flexible TAURUS HORIZONTAL from INNOTECH, for all substructures, provides people in fall hazard locations with the option of securing themselves optimally to the mobile anchor point or to the guided type fall arrester.
SHOW SYSTEMPSA Personal protective equipment
Intuitive use, optimum comfort, top quality: Just some of the characteristics of our anti-fall harness systems. The PPE STRING harness system is available in Basic, Comfort, and Pro models. All harnesses allow optimum freedom of movement and guarantee that the user is caught safely in the event of a fall.
SHOW SYSTEMAutomobiles, trains, ships and aircraft are used as means of transport in both the commercial and public sectors. Classic examples are trucks and train carriages in the logistics sector, as well as water, air and transport vehicles in ports or hangars. Large transport vehicles are also used by the fire brigade or for disaster relief. During loading and unloading, but also when securing the load, skilled workers move around and on the means of transport – and thus at sometimes dangerous heights. Inspection and cleaning work is also constantly being carried out on or in the immediate vicinity of the vehicles.
In professional workshops with sufficient space, stages, ramps or platforms are used for servicing and inspecting transport vehicles. Where this is not possible, a different protection against falls (from a height) is needed: for example, an anchorage device in combination with personal protective equipment (PPE) can be attached either overhead to building structures or directly to the vehicle. INNOTECH® offers systems for the protection of single and multiple persons in a wide range of spatial conditions.

Special hazard situations during loading and unloading
Local conditions and vehicles vary greatly in the transport industry's wide range of applications: conditions in a port are different from those in a logistics company. However, the following applies everywhere: for loading and unloading, but also for servicing, inspection and cleaning, the law requires safety measures for the persons carrying out the work.
Special requirements apply at heights between 1 and 3 meters: the risk of falling (from a height) and injury is often underestimated and a fall prevention (protection) system is required by law from a height of 2 meters. However, anchor points cannot be attached everywhere. In any case, the use of an airbag vest is recommended to protect against serious injuries to the back and chest.
Special features in the area of application of transport vehicles:
- The surface of vehicles on which work is carried out is considerably smaller than in other areas of application – such as the roof of an industrial hall. Due to the small surface, unintentional movements, such as a careless step backwards, can lead to a fall (from a height) more quickly.
- Loading and unloading of means of transport takes place in all weather conditions – entering a danger zone is virtually inevitable. Outside of halls and workshops, slipping due to weather conditions is an additional source of danger.
Three solutions for fall prevention (protection) systems in the transport sector
The size and height of transportation vehicles varies greatly – for example, a truck is usually much higher than an automobile. In addition, loading and maintenance activities are carried out both indoors under protected conditions and outdoors in all weather conditions. As broad as the range of applications and uses in transportation is, as clear are the ideal safety solutions from INNOTECH®:
- In workshops or halls, personal safety is provided by means of PPE and lanyards to anoverhead lifeline system. Several people can work safely on different vehicles at the same time. This makes continuous movement in the lifeline system possible.
- If an overhead solution is not possible, or if work is mainly done on the vehicle outside, the TAURUS rail protection system can be mounted for protectiondirectly on the vehicle.
- For fall heights between 1 and 3 meters, we recommend personal protective equipment (PPE) against falls from a height with an airbag, which provides protection where securing with a safety harness (full body harness) is not practical.

Advantages of a fall protection system for a transport vehicle
- Real safety instead of the illusion of safety: Falling from a vehicle can have consequences of similar severity to falling from a house roof. A professional fall protection system fully protects all people working on or at a transport vehicle.
- Simultaneous servicing of several transport vehicles: A continuous system, such as the AIO passable overhead lifeline system, is installed along the hall in the roof structure. This allows servicing of several vehicles, using just a single fall protection system.
- Flexible installation: The INNOTECH® systems can be installed on steel, concrete, and various other substrates. This allows them to be adapted to the local conditions.
- Safety combined with optimum freedom of movement: A fall protection system must protect without having a simultaneous negative effect on working operations. The attachment of INNOTECH® fall protection systems overhead or directly on the vehicle means that you remain flexible in your movements.
Challenges for fall prevention (protection) systems in passenger and freight transport:
- Underestimating the danger: The supposedly low height of a truck, van, or other vehicle leads to an underestimation of the risk of falling and the possible consequences.
- Location-independent fall prevention (protection) system, including outdoors: If a fixed fall prevention (protection) system, such as an overhead solution, is not possible, a solution directly on the vehicle is needed.
- Limited space: Spatial conditions vary and cannot always be covered by a standard solution. Therefore, the fall prevention (protection) system must be individually adaptable.
- Low fall (from a height) height: The standard does not prescribe a mandatory anchorage device for low heights. However, to ensure increased protection in the event of a drop, fall or fall from a height, a solution using an airbag vest is available for the range between 1 and 3 meters.
