SHOW SYSTEMOnline business is booming, and each day service providers have their hands full delivering packages. Accordingly – regardless whether for fashions and textiles, foodstuffs or consumer goods – large amounts of high-level storage are required. And in industry too high-level racks are being used to manage material flow efficiently. And so high-level storage has now become an important component of operational value creationacross industries.
In these racks up to 50 metres in height, goods are transferred using machines and robots, and prepared for shipment. For servicing the machines and processes, appropriate accesses and routes are created for humans. And that also means: To be able to perform repairs and service activities, the specialist personnel, sometimes under cramped circumstances, have to climb to great heights and expose themselves to particular dangers. Appropriate measures for fall protection are therefore essential.
In combination, the products from INNOTECH® provide holistic solutions for the high-level rack application area:

TAURUS VERTICAL
Rail system for vertical use
The TAURUS VERTICAL rail system is used wherever vertical ascents and descents require protection. Regardless whether ladder access, shelving/mast systems (with or without ladder), steel constructions with access systems, or as a means for shaft ...

TAURUS-ALLROUND
Rail system for all-round use
The TAURUS ALLROUND rail system combines the application range and benefits of TAURUS HORIZONTAL and VERTICAL in the form of a flowing transition between horizontal and vertical movement. Regardless whether industrial buildings, architecturally ...

VERT-LIFELINE SYSTEM
All-in-one lifeline system, vertica
The VERT LIFELINE SYSTEM is used wherever vertical ascents or descents require protection. Regardless whether ladder access, shelving/mast systems (with or without ladder) or steel constructions with access systems, it provides continuous fall ...

AIO-PASSABLE-OVERHEAD-LIFELINE-SYSTEM
All-in-one lifeline system, passable, for overhead use
The AIO PASSABLE OVERHEAD LIFELINE SYSTEM is deployed wherever a horizontal overhead must be protected. Regardless whether along a maintenance walkway or in the area of machine safeguarding, the lifeline system can be relied upon to protect ...

PPE STRING
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT PPE
Intuitive use, optimum comfort, top quality: Just some of the characteristics of our anti-fall harness systems. The PPE STRING harness system is available in Easy, Basic, Comfort, and Pro models. All harnesses allow optimum freedom of movement ...
For protection against falls during a vertical ascent INNOTECH® provides extremely safe, proven lifeline and rail systems, in addition to the mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE). If a seamless transition from vertical to horizontal movement is necessary, then the TAURUS ALLROUND rail system boasts one particular advantage: Here, detaching/re-attaching at the key points of the transitions is unnecessary, and the user benefits from a mobile anchorage point. This hugely increases the ease of operation for specialists working on a high-level rack. And the potential for incorrect use is greatly minimised. Furthermore, overhead attachments are also available.

As can be discerned from the term “high-level rack”, great heights have to be overcome in this working area. However, if people make a vertical ascent on the racks, then there is a risk that they lose their hold, and fall – especially when they are carrying tools. Regardless of this, access to fall-risk areas for any type of activity requires a fall protection system. For example, if traffic routes equipped with collective protection are left in order to reach a lost package, then a fall risk can arise. It is therefore necessary to use personal protective equipment against falls from a height (anti-fall PPE) with an appropriate anchorage device.
Knowledge about the numerous dangers and consciousness about a potential illusion of safety in the area of high-level racks are also essential, because high-level storage creates a large number of fall edges in a relatively small space. In addition to the often cramped circumstances, extreme temperature conditions are also significant. For example, the environmental conditions when the goods are deep-frozen can be onerous for the human organism, and can cause a lack of attention or result in mistakes. In general, but especially in this regard, we would like to point out the necessity for a rescue concept: Persons who have fallen need to be rescued quickly, in order to prevent or at least minimise the danger of serious injuries, such as a suspension trauma, as far as possible.
Benefits of an INNOTECH® fall protection system on high-level racks
- Full automation is supported in the best possible way: Service, maintenance, and repair activities on high-level racks can be performed quickly when the processes are designed to be safe – in effect the system continues to run.
- Neutralisation of the numerous danger situations: Because many fall edges meet each other in a small area on a high-level rack, the possibility of a fall is hugely reduced by the appropriate personal protection.
- Avoidance of the illusion of safety: With an appropriate safety solution, leaving the usual traffic routes does not represent a safety risk. Users are reliably protected against falls.
- Reduced incorrect use: With a user-friendly, continuous fall protection system, such as INNOTECH® TAURUS ALLROUND detaching/re-attaching becomes unnecessary for transitions from vertical to horizontal routes.
Challenges for personal protection on high-level storage
- Installation type and substructure: On high-level storage, ladders are used; like the racks themselves, these are generally made of metal. In addition, anchor points and safety systems can also be installed onto other substructures, such as concrete.
- Shortage of space: To avoid restricting automated processes and machine routes, a slender design and intelligent installation options for the fall protection system are beneficial.
- System availability inspection: Because of the great heights and distances which must be secured on high-level racks, the inspection of system availability needs to be well conceived.
- Extreme temperatures: The material of which the fall protection system is constructed must be robust and durable, in order to withstand the various storage conditions.
