Ladders

Permanently mounted safety systems for ascent and descent on ladders

TAURUS-VERTIKAL rail system for vertical use

The flexible TAURUS VERTICAL from INNOTECH, for all substructures, provides people in fall hazard locations with the option of securing themselves optimally to the mobile anchor point or to the guided type fall arrester.

BARRIER guardrail system for ladder exits

The BARRIER ASCENT LADDER SYSTEM secures the side exit area of ascent ladders. It is connected to the structure of a customer’s existing ascent ladder, and secures the area of transfer from the ladder to the roof surface (1.5 m to left and right is required by standard).

AIO VERT All-in-one lifeline system vertical

A fall risk occurs wherever vertical ascent/descent takes place, such as on silos, poles, ascent ladders, etc. The VERT-LIFELINE SYSTEM represents a flexible and individualised solution for enabling protected ascent/descent throughout.

Fall protection for the use of ladders

Ladders are amongst the most frequently underestimated applications in terms of fall or access protection. One false step or a brief lack of attention can have serious consequences. In addition, bad weather conditions, with rain, falling snow, or black ice worsen the situation when climbing or descending the ladder.

Particularly for permanently installed ladders it is therefore essential to provide appropriate protection. For such ladder implementations, AUVA (Allgemeine Unfallversicherungsanstalt - Austrian Social Insurance for Occupational Risks) requires back protection when the height exceeds 3 metres. If appropriate fixed safety precautions, for example a rail or a lifeline system, have been taken, then this back protection is no longer required.

A general rule: Not only the ladder itself is a danger area; particular attention must also be paid to the environment after ascending the ladder. Here, people move in direct proximity to the fall edge, i.e. in the fall risk area. Appropriate safety precautions therefore need to be taken on the ladder, and also in the area into which the ladder ascent opens.

This creates the necessity for a safety solution for the secured climb and descent as well as a solution for securing the fall edge on the roof in the area of the ladder ascent.

INNOTECH®: Your specialist for the fall and ascent protection of ladders

For safely climbing and descending a ladder, various individual protection solutions exist; these provide continuous protection for the person positioned on the ladder.

Both the TAURUS VERTICAL rail system and also the VERT LIFELINE SYSTEM are suitable – in combination with PPE personal protective equipment – for fall protection on a ladder. In the event of a fall, users are optimally protected, and in an emergency the appropriate fall protection saves their life.

Proven collective protection solutions can be used for protecting the fall edge on the roof, together with the danger area after the ladder ascent. Here we recommend the installation of a BARRIER ASCENT LADDER.

Benefits of a fall protection system for the use of ladders

  • Comprehensive protection for ascending and descending the whole of the ladder, thanks to the individual protection solutions in combination with PPE personal protective equipment
  • Safe transition from the ladder to the roof through the combinability of our safety solutions
  • Protected movement along the fall edge of a flat roof after ascending the ladder, thanks to the BARRIER ASCENT LADDER system

Challenges of the use of ladders

  • Slip hazard: A misstep or the effects of weather, such as rain or snow, increase the risk of a fall. For this reason, protection against a fall must be present.
  • Transition from the ladder to the roof: Special care is required here. The fall protection often ends at the top of the ladder. The transition therefore represents a particular source of danger. There are solutions which enable a safe transition to the roof.
  • Edges: Whether the ladder ascent takes place to a flat or a pitched roof, the person finds themselves in the middle of the fall-risk zone. Here too, appropriate protection is necessary.
