- PV systems are designed, but safety considerations are often addressed too late.
INNOTECH offers design consulting that integrates safety systems into the PV design process from the very beginning.
- Retrofit installation damages modules or the substructure.
Compatible systems tailored to the substructure—without interfering with the PV system.
- Different substructure manufacturers require different mounting solutions.
INNOTECH offers compatible solutions for aerocompact, k2, and novotegra.
Green Energy - Orange Safety. The installation of PV systems on the roofs and facades of existing and new buildings is—alongside the construction of solar farms—a solution for meeting our society’s energy needs. In addition to their function of protecting against wind and weather, these surfaces gain an additional benefit and will serve as power plants in the future.
Depending on the height, roof shape, and mounting structure of the PV modules, there can be significant differences in elevation between the roof and the ground. Especially during installation and maintenance work on roofs, people are moving in areas where careless movements, tripping, or slipping can, in the worst case, lead to a fall.
Mitigating Hazardous Situations with Fall Protection Systems
Roofs equipped with a PV system must be accessed relatively frequently due to regular servicing and inspection work on the photovoltaic system. This leads to an increased number of hazardous situations, particularly at the edges, where there is an elevated risk of falling.
Regardless of whether the photovoltaic system is operated commercially or privately, individuals working on the system must be protected by a fall protection system. Professional companies that design, install, and maintain photovoltaic systems must also ensure the safety of their employees. For commercially operated PV systems—such as those on the roofs of schools, public buildings, companies, or hospitals—a fall protection system is required by law. In the private sector, operators are required to ensure that the system can be accessed safely for servicing and inspection activities.
The fall protection system is installed directly onto the substructure, at the same time as the solar panels are being installed. Safety and productivity go hand in hand, no matter which system you choose: the AIO drive-over lifeline system, the TAURUS rail safety system, or the EAP single anchor points.
All safety systems are certified in accordance with European standards EN 795:2012 Types C and E and CEN/TS 16415, and are approved for use by two people. The ballast of the photovoltaic substructure provides the static load-bearing capacity, into which the forces are transferred even in the event of a fall (from a height).
SOPV-AIO Drive-over Lifeline System
is used wherever fall protection is required in conjunction with photovoltaic systems on roofs with a pitch of up to 5°. Thanks to the modular system components and a fastening distance of up to 7.5 m, the lifeline system can provide continuous fall protection not only for the PV system but also for the rest of the roof surface. The travelling eyebolt / slider allows for traversing the intermediate brackets and curves, thereby completely eliminating the need for cumbersome re-hooking or unhooking.
SOPV-TAURUS Rail System
is used wherever fall protection is required in conjunction with rooftop photovoltaic systems with a pitch of up to 5°. The rail system stands out because it can be installed right on the outer edge of the PV system (with a fastening distance of up to 3 m). Additionally, the expansion joint of the PV system is accommodated within the rail system using a dedicated connector.
