LEARN MORE
Steep roofs are among the most demanding work environments when it comes to fall protection. Installation, cleaning, and maintenance work on steep roofs therefore pose a particular challenge for fall protection systems. The roof shape and a pitch of more than 22 degrees (in Switzerland, roofs with a 10° pitch are already considered steep-sloped) make these tasks more difficult.
If the surface is wet or covered with snow, the risk of accidents or falls increases. PV panels are also increasingly creating additional tripping hazards and restricting the space available for movement.
To minimize the risk of a fall ( from a height ), a professional fall protection system that complies with safety standards must be installed for fall heights of 3 meters or more.
INNOTECH develops safety systems tailored to the specific roof covering and pitch (inclination). Whether it’s a traditional tile roof, a sheet metal roof, or a Prefa roof—and whether with or without a PV system. The systems grip securely without damaging the roof covering and enable safety while working across the entire roof surface.
The AIO drive-over lifeline system and/or the TAURUS rail system have proven particularly effective for fall protection on pitched roofs. While the AIO lifeline system uses a stainless steel cable for safety, the TAURUS rail system utilizes aluminum rails. Both systems impress with their high quality and wide range of options and can be perfectly adapted to all conditions on a pitched roof.
In addition to rope and rail protection systems, single anchor points on the roof are often used to prevent falls (from a height). For example, STA supports can be mounted in the center of the ridge or the roof surface. Safety roof hooks such as the SDH 31 or SDH 32 also provide the necessary protection on pitched roofs. These can be used both as single anchor points for personal protective equipment (PPE) and for securing a roof ladder.
Personal safety on pitched roofs using individualprotectionsolutions
Personal safetyon pitched roofs can only be provided using individual protection. This system secures individual users against falls from a height. In this case, personal protective equipment against falls from a height is mandatory to ensure the safety of fitters, as well as cleaning and maintenance personnel.
INNOTECH offers a sophisticated safety system in which all individual components are perfectly coordinated. This guarantees you the highest level of safety for all activities that must be performed on pitched roofs.
Challenges on Steep Roofs
- Working on sloped surfaces increases the risk of falls and slipping.
- Different roof coverings require different mounting solutions.
- PV panels limit available space on the pitched roof and create new fall hazards.
- Maintenance work on steep roofs is virtually impossible without a system that ensures safety.
- If access to the pitched roof is via a skylight or a ladder, these must also be secured, and safety during transfer from the ladder to the roof must be ensured.
Benefits of a Fall Protection System on a Steep Roof
- Continuous safety during all installation, cleaning, servicing, and repair work that requires accessing the roof, with or without PV panels.
Our AIO lifeline system and TAURUS rail system enable safe work across the entire roof surface—without having to reattach the harness. - Roofing-specific systems —SDH, EAP Sling, KIT BOX—for all common types of pitched roofs.
- Integrated safety systems that combine PV installation and fall protection system.
If you are planning a tile or PREFA roof, TAURUS solutions are available to you: The TAURUS rail system is mounted close to the roof without STA posts. This installation allows for easy cleaning of the PV panels or the PREFA solar roof panel, which protects your home while simultaneously generating electricity.
With this solution, you combine functionality, aesthetics, and energy efficiency at the highest level.
